About APHA – The American Public Health Association champions the health of all people and all communities. We are the only organization that combines a 150-year perspective, a broad-based member community and the ability to influence policy to improve the public’s health. Curamericas Global is an active member of the International Health section, with thousands of members include a broad range of international health professionals living in over 60 countries and in practically every state of the U.S..

Andrew Herrera is the co-chair of the Community-Based Primary Health Care Working Group. Recently Andrew was told that this group is the “Crown Jewel” of the International Health Section, no doubt in large part to Dr. Henry Perry’s long-time support and leadership. This group was founded by Curamericas Global inspirers Dr. John Wyon and Dr. Carl Taylor.

Notes from the 2023 Conference

As you can see, Curamericas Global, with two full-time staff, was well represented at the APHA in 2023.

Shayanne Martin from our Board of Advisors and Andrew Herrera worked to submit abstracts, travel and present our results. With four presentations and three scientific posters, we estimate we reached over 115 unique attendees. These attendees are often professionals who are passionate and connected to Global Health. They have the funding to attend this professional conference and likely are influential in their own organizations and in the broader global health arena. This effort was worthwhile and reinforces what many have said to us over the past 40 years, our programs our world class.

The monumental task of publishing results from our work in Guatemala was driven by Dr. Perry and many people contributed, especially Dr. Mario Valdez, Alma Dominguez, Juany Ramirez and many healthcare heroes in Guatemala. On the US side, there were 26 different authors and key leadership came from Erin Pfieffer and Ira Stollak.
