Meet Curamericas’ Summer 2015 Interns
Posted: August 18, 2015

Cassie Saroza

Cassie is a rising senior at Franklin County Early College High School where she will not only complete high school but will also complete college coursework to graduate with her diploma and an AA degree. She loves the work Curamericas provides to mother and children in forgotten communities and jumped on her chance to become involved in the preventative healthcare. In Cassie’s spare time, she enjoys playing the guitar, ukulele, and viola. Not only can she play all these awesome instruments but she also sings!

Alison graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and a minor in Social Entrepreneurship. During her time in college and post-grad, she founded and ran two non-profit organizations that focused primarily on international development and education in South Africa. While her daily tasks for Curamericas include planning logistics for fundraising events and communicating with donors, she is also doing freelance marketing for a local technology start up with a philanthropic focus. Not only is Alison a twin but she is a mirror image twin which means that not only are she and her sister genetically identical twins but that they are also a matching reflection of each other. For example, Alison is left-handed and has a birthmark on her left leg while her sister is right-handed and has the same birthmark on her right leg. How cool is that?

Sita is currently pursuing her bachelor’s in Health Communication and Spanish at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina and she will be graduating in the spring of 2016. During her time in college, she has worked with young Hispanic kids to improve their English speaking skills. Sita also completed a fundraiser for a nonprofit organization, SmileTrain, which works to give surgeries to kids with cleft lips and palates. When she is not designing social media posts and constructing our monthly digital e-newsletters, she can be found in the kitchen where she practices her love for cooking. She enjoys learning new recipes and cooking for her family and friends.

Rebecca studied Psychology and Spanish at North Carolina State University and the Universidad de Murcia in Spain. She spent a year in Spain teaching English. Her work has been focused in the service industry, which has helped her to form connections to businesses in the community. With these resources, Rebecca is working hard at the Curamericas headquarters to put together an awesome fundraising event for Giving Tuesday in December. She hopes her enthusiasm will translate into a successful event that will draw in new donors and please the current sponsors. Keep up the great work, Rebecca!

Caitlin graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies and a minor in English. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Global Health through Northwestern University. Caitlin has worked for different nonprofits that focused on humanitarian and public health work, including one that worked closely with an HIV/AIDS NGO in Cape Town, South Africa. While Caitlin balances her time between program and development tasks, she enjoys staying active and is currently training for a half marathon! We’re rooting for you, Caitlin!

Victoria Ellis

Victoria earned her bachelor’s in Biology and master’s in Public Health from Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina. Her passions are primarily in women’s issues, global minority and sexual health. She has completed multiple internships in local health department where sexual education including HIV/AIDS intervention has been the main focus. Victoria’s love for Harry Potter radiates in her two giant dogs, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin (both characters from the beloved book series).
