Donor Spotlight: Bob & Susan Knowles
Posted: October 5, 2015

Bob and Susan have supported Curamericas Global since 1999. Their passion for Curamericas Global stems from the life and work of Bob’s grandfather, Frank S. Beck. Dr. Beck was one of the first missionaries to Bolivia in 1912 and worked alongside some of Curamericas Global’s founding members to build a hospital and nursing school to provide healthcare to Bolivians when there were no other options. Today Bob and Susan Knowles continue to support the health of mother and children in need as Curamericas Sustainers .

“We were first drawn to Curamericas Global when it was Andean Rural Health Care due to its support of the clinics in Bolivia. Curamericas is doing the work that we want done, it is not wasting money on high administrative or fundraising costs.  Our donation is put to use providing for those in need.

It is our good fortune in life to be able to share with those in need, and we believe that Curamericas Global is the best way to do it.  We are frugal people and know that Curamericas Global makes the most from every dollar we donate. We chose to sign up for recurring donations because it is an easy way for us to spread out our annual donation goal and it helps Curamericas to have a steady stream of income. We would not hesitate to recommend Curamericas Global as charitable organization.  Our dollars help support those who can extend a helping hand to provide healthcare and teach others how to care for themselves.”

We are so grateful for the support and dedication of Curamericas Sustainers like Bob and Susan. Thank you for your support over the last 16 years and your lifetime commitment to helping those in need. To read the full interview below.

Join Bob and Susan by becoming a Curamericas Sustainer and making regular contributions to provide healthcare for mothers and children in need. Learn why donors around the country are switching to small, consistent giving throughout the year.

How did you first learn about Curamericas?

Bob’s cousin, Bindy Beck –Meyer, traveled to Bolivia where she learned about the work Curamericas was providing which followed up the work done by Bessie & Doctor Beck.

How long have you been involved?

We have been making donations to support the work in Bolivia since 1999.

What’s one of your favorite memories of working with Curamericas Global?

We enjoyed getting the chance to meet with Andrew Herrera and hearing about Curamericas.  The newsletters we receive tell a compelling story of healthcare services provided through the good work done by Curamericas. Over the years we have had contact with previous directors of the organization via email, telephone and holiday cards but meeting with Andrew was an opportunity to learn more about the organization’s applying for and receiving grants for various projects to provide healthcare.

Why do you support Curamericas Global as opposed to other groups working in global health and development?

We were first drawn to Curamericas when it was Andean Rural Health due to its support of the clinics in Bolivia.   It was Bob’s good luck to have been born in La Paz to Miriam Beck daughter of Frank S Beck.  Miriam, returned to Bolivia and started the nursing school in La Paz after becoming a registered nurse in the United States.  Her mother, Bessie Beck, was the hospital administrator and her father, Dr. Beck, provided medical services.

Why are reoccurring donations your way of giving?

Reoccurring donations are smaller amounts coming out of our monthly income.  It is an easy way for us to spread out our annual donation goal and it helps Curamericas to have a steady stream of income.  It was easy to set up a regular transfer from our checking account.

What do you wish others knew about Curamericas Global?

Curamericas is very efficient in delivering help which makes us feel that you are the best organization we could support.  You are doing the work that we want done.  You are not wasting money on high administrative or fundraising costs.  You are putting our donation to use providing for those in need in South America, Haiti, and other places in need.

What would you tell someone who was considering donating to Curamericas Global?

We would not hesitate to recommend Curamericas Global as charitable organization.  Curamericas our primary charity.   It is our good fortune in life to be able to share with those in need, and we believe that Curamericas Global is the best way to do it.  We are frugal people and know that Curamericas Global makes the most from every dollar we donate. We care about our global neighbors but cannot go to provide help ourselves.  Our dollars can be there to help support those who can extend a helping hand to provide healthcare and teach others how to care for themselves.
