CURAMERICAS GLOBAL TEAMS UP WITH LOCAL CHURCH FOR TRIP TO GUATEMALA
Triad residents partner with nonprofit to save the lives of women and children in forgotten communities
On March 30, 11 church members from Christ United Methodist Church (UMC) of Greensboro will join Raleigh-based global nonprofit, Curamericas Global, on a trip to Guatemala to support the organization’s mission to provide mothers and children around the world with vital health services.
While on the trip, the volunteers will participate in the following:
· Community outreach with local health workers, including visits to homes and schools
· Distributing vitamins and medicine, performing hand-washing demonstrations and training in schools, and aiding healthcare workers with tasks such as weighing and measuring patients
· Volunteer in a community-based rural healthcare program in a developing country to learn about local initiatives and the various cultural, religious, governmental and socio-economic factors which affect healthcare
Since 1983, Curamericas has worked to make a measurable impact in underserved communities. In Guatemala, child mortality rates have been reduced by 37 percent and maternal mortality rates by 63 percent. More information about their three-pronged approach used to build the sustainable health programs that deliver these results is available here.
Christ UMC of Greensboro has a long history with Curamericas dating back to the early 90s. The organization’s founder, Dr. Henry Perry, even has roots to the church where he was a longtime member.
