Here at Curamericas Global, we understand the value of a good intern. These young people donate their time, energy, and smarts to our mission. At the start of this new school year, we’re welcoming four new passionate members to the Curamericas Global team. Over the next few months, these interns will be working on communications, fundraising, programming, and administrative tasks. Thank you to all of our interns who contribute their creativity and knowledge to Curamericas Global headquarters!

Rain Tiller

Rain Tiller is currently a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she studies political science, international relations, and gender studies. Although born and raised in Florida, she has spent the last ten years living in the suburbs of Raleigh. At Curamericas, Rain will be a communications intern contributing to blog posts, graphic designs, and Curamericas website content. She knew she wanted to work for Curamericas Global because the organization reflects many of her values and interests: equitable community partnerships, women’s health, and sustainable development. In the future, she hopes to work in the foreign service and international human rights organizations. When she manages to find free time, she likes to read, watch New Girl, and tend to her new kitten, Olive.

Kelsey Wilson

I’m a senior at Meredith College where I am a double major in Biology and Public Health. I co-founded and am the co-president of the Curamericas Club at Meredith College. I love global health, and I have been to Nicaragua and Panama on Medical Brigades. My ultimate goal is to be a midlevel practitioner, and I hope that I can continue to work in underprivileged communities after I achieve this. I love doing hot yoga, and my all-time favorite TV show is How I Met your Mother. I have two dogs, a Boston Terrier named Clover, and a Golden Retriever named Sadie.

Susan Ventaloro

My name is Susan Ventaloro and I am a senior at North Carolina State University majoring in International Development. I transferred to NC State from Long Island, New York, after receiving my Associates degree from a community college. I am the administrative intern at Curamericas Global. I am in charge of the organizational aspects of the donations given to the organization, advertising our upcoming events to public sites, and helping host the events! I wanted to work for Curamericas Global to help save the lives of women and children and become more involved in global health. Upon graduation, I hope to receive a fellowship to do research on family planning in developing countries, as well as the prevention of the spread of diseases such as HIV/AIDs. I’m hoping to find my niche in the public health sector so I can then apply for a masters program in public health to further my education. In my little spare time I love to be outdoors and go hiking, running, and also finding ways to eat and be healthier.

Aditya Mehta

Originally from Mumbai, India, Aditya is a graduate of Duke University’s Global Health Institute, where he placed special emphasis on health policy, health systems strengthening and maternal and child health. His graduate thesis was titled ‘The Barriers to the Integration of the Uterine Balloon Tamponade into South Africa and Ghana’s Health Systems for the Management of Postpartum Hemorrhage.’  Aditya received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University in Sociology and Religion, with a minor in Global Health, Cultures and Society. At Curamericas Global, he will be working on various facets of Curamericas Global’s Africa programs such as literature reviews for grant applications and data analysis. In addition, he will write Curamericas Global’s blogs. Aditya was keen on working with Curamericas Global because he identified strongly with the organization’s core values of sustainability, equity, compassion, empowerment and data driven. These attributes are evident in Curamericas Global’s 14-year presence in Guatemala, where it has trained thousands of health workers in the most remote and impoverished regions of the country to provide essential health services such as immunization of children and at-risk pregnant women and prenatal checkups. Aditya aspires to pursue a PhD in International Relations and form a career at the intersection of global health and international relations. Aditya spends his leisure time on cricket, exercise, politics, reading, and film. 

Swathi Ayyagari

Swathi Ayyagari grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies and Political Science. She developed an interest in international development after serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia for two years. Although she possesses field experience, Swathi wants to learn administrative and managerial skills required for development projects with Curamericas Global, as she is interested in a career that supports community health and environment initiatives in the developing world. Swathi is joining the Curamericas Global team as an administrative intern, assisting with office management and document creation tasks. In her free time, Swathi likes to read, practice yoga, and do crafts.
