Ashley Montague, LCSW
Ashley Montague is a public health social worker with more than 25 years of experience working with families and children in various settings, including rural community health centers and urban hospital emergency departments. She currently works for Wake County Human Services, serving mostly immigrant families.
In her mid-20s she traveled to Mexico and Central America to learn Spanish and has felt a deep attachment to that part of the world ever since. In the 1990s she worked for an NGO in Tegucigalpa, Honduras organizing youth groups in marginalized communities. She also spent two years working as a Program Associate for Mexico with Ipas, a global reproductive health organization based in Chapel Hill, NC. In 2016, Ashley saw first-hand the impact of Curamericas Global work when she and her daughter participated in a Curamericas volunteer trip to Guatemala. She has been a staunch proponent of Curamericas work ever since.
Ashley grew up in Charlotte, NC but has moved around a good bit, living in New York City, Chapel Hill, NC, and Austin, Texas before landing in Raleigh 10 years ago where she lives with her husband, Bill and daughter, Vanessa. She has a BA in English and a Master of Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill.
