Intern-Ductions: Meet our Summer 2018 Interns!

Formerly the Africa Program Support Intern, Rob is continuing his work with Curamericas Global as a Program Fellow. Rob graduated from the University of Notre Dame with degrees in Health Sciences and Theology. His first experiences in global health came from a service-learning program in Uganda where he was an HIV counselor at a rural health center. After his undergraduate studies, Rob served with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he taught English at a secondary school for two years. Rob was drawn to Curamericas Global because of its melding of public health and social work through community health initiatives. Rob is thrilled to be supporting our Community Birthing Center project in Kenya.

 

Abdoul is originally from Niamey, Niger, and is in the US to pursue his degree from NC State University. Abdoul is working as a Digital Marketing Intern and focusing on editing the Curamericas Global blog and website. He is excited to learn more about maternal health issues in the developing world and getting to interact with other interns. During his time at Curamericas Global, Abdoul hopes to enhance his leadership ability, gain valuable skills in fundraising, and learn more digital marketing skills. In the future, Abdoul hopes to use the skills he’s gained from his schooling and experience to run his own nonprofit.

 

Charlotte recently graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with an undergraduate degree in public policy and global studies. While working for Curamericas Global as an administrative intern, Charlotte hopes to apply her interest in global health to learn about the inner-workings of a global health non-profit and gain connections for a future career in public health. Charlotte plans to eventually pursue a Masters of Public Health in maternal/child health.

 

 

Ceci is currently pursuing a Masters of International Studies with a specialization in sustainable development at NC State. Cecilia’s interest in international development led to her pursuit of an internship with Curamericas Global. As the Qualitative Data Analysis Intern, Ceci hopes to enhance her knowledge regarding global health and community engagement, as well as improve her research skills by working with data from an ongoing project. In the future, Ceci hopes to work as a development practitioner for an international organization while continuing to teach at the University level. 

 

Hannah L. is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in Media and Journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. After volunteering with several local nonprofits, Hannah decided to pursue an internship with Curamericas Global in order to gain experience from a global health perspective. As an administrative intern, Hannah L. hopes to further develop her written and communication skills and gain valuable experience from an office setting. Hannah L. is excited to learn about nonprofit work from an administrative standpoint rather than her previous experience as a volunteer.

 

Heline is originally from Nairobi, Kenya, and just received her masters in International Studies from NC State University. As an Administrative Intern for Curamericas Global, Heline is excited to apply her knowledge from her past course specialization to her internship, while interacting with her peers. Heline has studied African politics and nonprofit management and is looking forward to turning her theoretical knowledge into practical skills. Heline hopes to eventually work at a nonprofit specialized in human security and development in nonprofit organization.

 

 

After receiving her Undergraduate degree from Notre Dame, Colleen began her Masters of Public Health at the UNC Gillings School of Public Health. Colleen’s interest in reducing maternal, child, and infant mortality led to her pursuit of an internship with Curamericas Global. As the Qualitative Data Analysis Intern for the Guatemala program, Colleen hopes to improve her data analysis skills and report writing, while applying her Spanish language abilities to public health research. During her time at Curamericas Global, Colleen is most excited to utilize the interviews from participants in Guatemala in order to discover and apply improvements to the program. After receiving her Masters of Public Health, Colleen hopes to find employment in global health program management, preferably focused on maternal and child health programming.

 

Jada is a rising Junior at NC State University, where she is studying Business Administration and International Studies. As an events and fundraising intern for Curamericas Global, Jada hopes to learn how to effectively organize a successful fundraising event. She is excited to execute her own fundraising event and act as a spokesperson for Curamericas Global in her community. In the future, Jada aspires to practice human rights law for the United Nations.

 

 

Lauren Pavone is an Administrative Intern at Curamericas Global. Lauren graduated from East Carolina University in December 2017 with a degree in Public Health. She has studied abroad in London, England during the summer of 2016 to study and gain knowledge on international healthcare systems. Lauren has also been involved with many volunteer trips to Costa Rica by helping out with a feeding program for children through a local mission. She has been part of the Curamericas Global staff since February 2018. Lauren will be pursuing her Master’s of Business Administration with a concentration in health administration this fall.

 

Shelby is from Clayton, NC and graduated from East Carolina University in 2017. Shelby was drawn Curamericas Global because of its unique mission and methodology, and her professor encouraged her to apply for the internship program. Shelby is working as an Events and Outreach intern, and hopes to apply her global health care and nonprofit skills toward her work. In the future, Shelby hopes to positively influence those around her by creating sustainable systematic change and better the wellness of the world one community at a time.

 

Shivani, a student at Meredith College, learned about Curamericas Global through a presentation at Meredith and from friends who had interned with Curamericas Global. Because Shivani is only familiar with the medical side of maternal/child health, she decided to apply to work with Curamericas Global in order to learn about it from a public health perspective.  As a Digital Marketing intern, Shivani is looking to expand her knowledge in social media marketing and improve Curamericas Global’s social media presence. Shivani plans to attend medical school to become an OB/GYN.

 

Hannah P. graduated from ECU with an undergraduate degree in Religious studies and Multidisciplinary studies, and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Public Health at the UNC Gillings School of Public Health. Hannah P. is working on the Qualitative Data Analysis Project, and is hoping to get a better understanding of an organization that is based in the US doing international work. During her time at Curamericas Global, Hannah P. is excited to learn more about women’s birth experiences in Guatemala and improve her Spanish. In the future, Hannah P. hopes to be involved in community based participatory research that is focused on women’s emotional and mental health throughout the perinatal period.
