July 1 marked the start of a new partnership for Curamericas Global in Bo District, Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone is known for having the 2nd highest child mortality rate in the world. Curamericas is proud to announce this long-term partnership, which would not have been possible without the generous gifts of our supporters. Thank you for enabling us to expand our lifesaving programs to this area of great need!

The new project will focus on reducing maternal and child mortality. We will partner with eight communities in the district, reaching a total of over 24,000 people with lifesaving health services and education.

According to recent health statistics:

• Sierra Leone has the 2nd highest under-five mortality rate in the world.¹
• 71% of the population lives on less than $1.25 per day, which is considered to be extreme poverty.²
• Women have a 1 in 23 chance of dying from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth during their lifetime²

Using our signature Community-Based, Impact-Oriented (CBIO) Methodology, our project will increase antenatal care, provide safe deliveries and after-care by skilled attendants, and combat child malaria, diarrhea, and malnutrition.

While there is no quick-fix solution for any of Sierra Leone’s problems, by training and deploying local primary health care teams, community health workers, trained traditional midwives, and care group volunteers who are on the ground, Curamericas can better serve the people of Bo District.
