Curamericas Global just released its 2015 Annual Report, detailing the life-changing impacts its projects have made on communities in need. This past year, communities around the globe saw big changes as Curamericas expanded healthcare access and education to Guatemala, Bolivia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Kenya. The Annual Report highlights Curamericas’ work towards our goal of long-term healthcare system reform by empowering communities to take control of their own health.

Healthcare for Mothers and Children Improves Communities

• Investing in child health creates a ripple effect that improves economic growth in families and communities.
• 99% of maternal deaths occur in developing countries. Mothers suffer from conditions that could be easily prevented through the increase of access to resources and basic health care.
• Around 50% of pregnant women give birth without the help of a skilled birth attendant, many on the dirt floor of their own homes.

Curamericas Global Takes Action

Our research-proven methodologies address the numerous challenges in maternal and child health for communities in need around the world. Curamericas Global’s signature Community-Based, Impact-Oriented approach recently received international attention in an academic journal, highlighting its success.  By addressing healthcare in a comprehensive and culturally friendly way, we build the abilities of local healthcare providers to better understand and more effectively treat community members to reduce unnecessary suffering, sickness, and death.

Positive Change: Country Highlights

Guatemala:  More than 70% of women delivered their children in a health facility (far exceeding our project goal of 45%).

Kenya: Nimba County’s child mortality rate reduced by 63%.

Bolivia: Established health records for 3,914 families to devise strategies to effectively address devastating health issues.

Sierra Leone: Started a new program that will reach over 4,000 people with lifesaving health services and education.

Volunteers

We are thankful for our generous volunteers who take action and increase our organizational capacity in our Raleigh office and abroad.

• In 2015, 27 interns and volunteers donated over 2,500 hours to our main office in Raleigh.
• Our international volunteers and practicum students’ hard work at our Guatemalan site provided healthcare and education for more than 500 mothers and children.
