Henry Perry, MD, PhD, MPH
Founder of Curamericas Global, Director Emeritus
Henry currently serves as Senior Associate in the Health Systems Program of the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, MD. He has a formal background in medicine including general surgery, public health, sociology and anthropology. Henry has lived and worked in Bangladesh and Haiti in maternal and child health issues, primary care, hospital care, and community development. From 2003-2009 he worked with the NGO Future Generations to establish its innovative Master’s Degree program in Applied Community Change and Conservation.

Richard Fox II, MBA
Chair, Board of Directors
Dick has been involved with Curamericas for almost 20 years and has seen the amazing changes within the organization firsthand. He has visited the projects in Bolivia, Guatemala, and Liberia and is currently serving as the Chair of the Board of Directors. Dick has served as an officer in number of local nonprofit boards that serve the arts, the environment and human services. Dick is actively involved in various businesses including residential, and commercial building, and a cheerleading company.

Wes Jones, MD
Past Chair
Wes is the founder and senior partner of the Cape Fear Center for Digestive Diseases in Fayetteville, NC. Wes has made approximately 20 trips to Bolivia since 1987 along with 250 volunteer team members. He first joined the Board in 1988 and later rejoined the Board of Directors in 2005. He has also visited our projects in Guatemala, Liberia, and Haiti. Wes has been given the FACP and AGAF awards for his work in medicine and gastroenterology. He recently authored Cure Constipation Now, A Doctor's Fiber Therapy to Cleanse and Heal [released by Penguin in July 2009].

Linda Velonis, CPA
Chair-Elect
Linda brings extensive management experience in finance and accounting, shared services, change management, and process and system improvements to the Curamericas Board of Directors since 2005. Linda began her career at Coopers & Lybrand and became a Certified Public Accountant in California. She previously served as Vice President of Finance at Liberation International Entertainment, an international film and television distribution company; and was Vice President of Finance, IT and Administration at Ancora Capital, a mail presort company. Linda has also held various senior financial management positions at Universal Studios Inc. and MCA Inc.

Brenda Booth, APRN-C
Brenda is an adult nurse practitioner with Highland Family Practice in Fayetteville, NC. She has been involved with Curamericas since 1998 when she made her first trip to Montero, Bolivia. Her interests include both preventive and primary health care and a commitment to helping others. In addition to her work with Curamericas she is active on the Outreach Committee of Haymount United Methodist Church and is president-elect of The CARE Clinic, a free health care clinic in Fayetteville.

Betsy Jordan-Bell, MPH, RD
Betsy is a public health nutritionist with experience in programming for the treatment of severe acute malnutrition in Africa. She first became interested in public health through participating on a church-sponsored volunteer trip to Bolivia through Curamericas as a high school student. Betsy is currently working as project coordinator of a nutrition and HIV-focused research study at Carolina Population Center in Chapel Hill, NC.

John Matheson, DDS
John received his DDS from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Virginia. He is a retired Navy Captain and has held numerous leadership positions while on active duty. Dr. Matheson received his certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1979. Following retirement from the Navy, he went into private practice in Asheville in 1992. Dr. Matheson has served as the President of the North Carolina Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and North Carolina Dental Alumni Association and as a section chief of ENT, Plastics, OMS and Dental at Mission/St. Joseph’s Hospitals.

Kristie Evans
Kristie is a Management Consultant and owner of HR Logistics LLC in Raleigh, NC. Her company provides transformation management consulting that facilitates collaboration across functions within the business to achieve strategic business initiatives. Services provide a blend of competencies ranging from strategic planning to communication, change management and project management. Her signature methodology blends tactical, financial, and political considerations to support business initiatives from a “holistic” perspective and achieve greater success.
